Why can I thread a needle on the first try so easy and sometimes the same needle seems so hard?

This question came up on one of my Facebook groups. The question was asked by a hand quilter. I had a serious WTF! moment when another quilter who also does a lot of needle work answered.

“Turn the needle over, the hole really is bigger on one side”

Guess what!?! It’s true. hand sewing needle holes are beveled on one side to make sewing easier.
